Eric Sykes Joins Alton Little Theater as New Executive Director

Alton Little Theater (ALT) is thrilled to announce the arrival of Eric Sykes, who will officially join the staff at the Showplace starting January 1, 2025. Eric will take on the role of Executive Director, bringing a wealth of talent and experience to the theater. This exciting transition follows the retirement of ALT’s long-serving Artistic Director, Kevin Frakes, who is stepping down after an extraordinary 57 years of dedicated service. Kevin’s final project will be directing John Jakes’ A Christmas Carol, a fitting conclusion to his illustrious career.

In addition to Eric’s arrival, Lee Cox will continue to play a pivotal role in ALT’s leadership. Lee will provide mentorship, directing and supporting productions through the spring and early summer of 2025, ensuring a smooth and vibrant transition for the theater.

Eric Sykes comes to ALT from Alfresco Theater in Granite City, where he served as Managing Director and gained invaluable experience as an actor. His connection with ALT dates back to his time working on Singing in the Rain, where he developed a deep appreciation for the theater. His passion for the stage and business management, coupled with his love for ALT, makes him an exceptional choice to lead the organization into its next chapter.

More information about Eric will be shared in the fall, and ALT patrons will have the opportunity to meet and get to know him personally. Even before his official start date, Eric plans to assist ALT with business affairs while also directing his final production at Alfresco Theater.

Reflecting on his new role, Eric shared his enthusiasm:

“Stepping into the role of Executive Director at Alton Little Theater is an incredible honor. I’m excited not only to build on the theater’s strong foundation of artistic excellence but also to explore new ways to expand our reach and footprint in the community and the entire metro region. We aim to engage more people than ever before—whether they’re in the audience or on stage—by offering dynamic programming and creating opportunities that connect with a broader audience. Together, we can take Alton Little Theater to new heights, while honoring the legacy that has been built by so many people throughout this organization’s rich 91 years in operation.”

As ALT enters this exciting new era, the theater’s leadership remains committed to maintaining its artistic legacy while continuing to innovate and grow. Stay tuned for more updates as Eric officially joins the ALT family and begins shaping the future of this cherished community institution.
